Governing Bodies

Care Commission

All of our clubs are registered with the Care Commission.  The Care Commission are the regulatory body for all care services in Scotland.  The Care Commission offer us support and guidance on operating our services.  The Care Commission have put together the “Care Standards”.  We have to ensure that we fulfill what is required in order to deliver these standards in our clubs which in turn, makes your child’s time with us as beneficial and enjoyable as possible.  The Care Commission visit us on an annual, unannounced basis to check on our progress and to ensure that we are fulfilling the standards.  We complete a “Self Assessment Document” and submit this to our Care Commission Officer (CCO) prior to their visit.  Our CCO then comes to visit us and compare their thoughts, our Self Assessment document, the day to day running of the club and ask the children for their feedback.  The Care Commission may ask to speak with you during their visit to ask for your views etc.  After each visit, we are given a report and may be asked to make adjustments to the service that we provided (either recommendations or requirements). This report is available to all parents to read through.

THE SCOTTISH SOCIAL SERVICES COUNCIL

Up until 2006, each child care provider was responsible for vetting all their staff and ensuring that each member of staff went through all relevant medical and reference checks.  Although this is still the case, in 2006 the Scottish Social Services Council set up a child carers register.  Every child carer has been invited to register with the Scottish Social Services, and in order to do so, they must complete a number of additional checks.  If a child care provider has to dismiss a member of staff for a reason that may have put a child in their care at risk, or if the provider has any concerns about a member of staff working with children, they can be reported to the Scottish Social Services Council.  If the concerns are founded, this will eventually result in the person in question being taken off the register.  When Karemore takes on a new member of staff, they can check with the Scottish Social Services to ensure that they are on the register and that there has not been any issues in the past.  This basically keeps all the children in Karemore’s care even safer!  We also have additional policies and procedures to ensure safe recruitment including:

  1. New Staff Disclosure Policy
  2. Staff Recruitment and Vetting Policy
  3. Code of Conduct for Staff
If you wish to see any of these policies or procedures, please do not hesitate to contact either myself or a senior staff member.
